Product Description

The VH 3.96 is a 3.96 mm pitch wire-to-board connector designed for medium to high current harness-to-PCB power/signal links. It is available in vertical (top-entry) and right-angle (side-entry) SMT variants for automated assembly. The connector features polarization to prevent mismating, optional latch/friction-lock mechanisms, and reinforced solder hold-downs for improved pull-out and vibration resistance. It suits appliances, power supplies, LED drivers, and industrial control equipment.

Key features

  • Pitch: 3.96 mm; positions: standard 2–12 (additional circuits on request)
  • Mounting: SMT; vertical (top-entry) and right-angle (side-entry) options
  • Safety and structure: polarized/keyed; optional latch or friction lock; protective shroud with clear tactile mating
  • Mechanical reinforcement: large solder pads, metal hold-downs/side solder tabs, board-lock designs for enhanced retention and anti-vibration performance
  • Mating components: compatible with matching series crimp terminals and housings; supports common wire gauges (approx. AWG 16–22, depending on terminal)
  • Materials and plating: insulator PA66/PA9T, UL94V-0; contacts copper alloy with nickel underlayer + matte tin, optional selective gold on contact area

Electrical performance (typical; refer to datasheet)

  • Rated current: up to ~10 A per contact depending on wire gauge, circuit count, and temperature rise criteria
  • Rated voltage: commonly up to 250 V AC/DC
  • Contact resistance: ≤ 10 mΩ (typical)
  • Insulation resistance: ≥ 1000 MΩ
  • Dielectric withstanding voltage: ≥ 1500 VAC for 1 minute

Environmental and reliability

  • Operating temperature: −25 to +105 °C
  • Lead-free reflow compatible; halogen-free options available

Assembly and soldering

  • Supplied in tape-and-reel for high-speed pick-and-place; optional pick-up cap/locating features
  • Recommended PCB land patterns and stencil apertures provided; reflow profile per J-STD-020
  • For larger bodies, consider increased paste volume and auxiliary retention; exercise care with double reflow

Compliance and documentation

  • RoHS and REACH compliant
  • Available resources: 2D drawings, PCB footprints, 3D STEP models, soldering/handling guidelines

Packaging

  • Tape-and-reel as standard; tray/box packaging optional

Typical applications

  • Home appliances and white goods (motor drives, control boards)
  • AC/DC power supplies and LED drivers/lighting power
  • Industrial controllers, HVAC, relay/terminal modules
  • Battery packs and charging/storage modules
